Students from across the state of Rhode Island will participate in a two (2) day Youth Leadership Experience. Students must be over the age of 16 (if younger, may be accompanied by parent) Students must be able to stand for long periods of time, and withstand being in the heat/sun. Personal needs can and will be accommodated, once communicated.
The major areas of focus will include:
Advocacy & Story-telling: Use their experience and voice through social media to advocate for Special Olympics athletes being brave in the attempt for the gold.
Practical Knowledge & Meaningful Involvement: Learn skills and have hands-on experience with Young Athletes programs alongside long-term coaches and volunteers while also being given the chance to ask questions and gaining a deeper understanding of both the programming and the organization as a whole.
Professional Development: The opportunity to network and communicate with individuals within the organization on a staffing level as well as a volunteer base to explore career options and volunteer opportunities post-graduation.
