A Message From Bill Ziehl
On March 25th I’m heading back to the beach to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Rhode Island. I will be Super Plunging for the 7th time as a member of the Torch Run Super Plunge Team for Special Olympics Rhode Island.
The Super Plunge team represents the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the Special Olympics Flame of Hope. As Guardians of the Flame, we don’t just plunge once, we each plunge at least 1 time every hour for 24 straight hours into the near freezing Atlantic Ocean.
I have plunged in wind chills well below zero and I can’t predict the weather or water temperature this March, but I will plunge no matter the weather. Along with my team, I will deprive myself of sleep for over 32 hours, my skin will be burnt from windblown sand, near freezing saltwater, and possible freezing wind chills.
WE PLUNGE FOR A PURPOSE AND FREEZE FOR A REASON
Many of you, including my doctor ask why I do this or continue to do this event? It’s simple… I do it to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Rhode Island. I do it knowing our 3000 plus athletes in Rhode Island will be able to be compete for free, to be included in our communities and to see smiles on their faces.
Your generous support helps Special Olympics to create opportunities for people with physical and intellectual disabilities to participate in sports so the athletes can enhance their physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience the joy of competing, strengthen their skills and create new friendships with other Special Olympics athletes and people within their community. Our athletes are setting and achieving their personal goals, while others are setting Special Olympic Records.
My Torch Run Super Plunge Team and I can help bring awareness but we need your support to keep the Flame of Hope burning for our Olympians so they can live the Special Olympics motto:
“Let Me Win, but if I cannot Win, Let me be Brave in the Attempt”.
Thank you for helping Special Olympics create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.
Thank You, please consider a donation and I hope to see you at the beach!!!
