A Message From Rick LaBreche

On March 25th and 26th I will be participating in my 8th 24 hour Torch Run Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island. What is a Super Plunge? Well I'm glad you asked. I will be plunging into the ice cold Atlantic Ocean 24 times in a 24 hour period. In past years the water temperature has been 33*-38* with wind chills as low as -14*. Why would I want to put myself through that? Another good question that I'm glad you asked. Special Olympics Rhode Island is such an important organization to me and my family. My daughter Sarah is an athlete on the Rhody Rangers and I am the Head Coach of the team. I also have a niece Lizzy who is an athlete on the Rhody Rangers. My wife Kim and daughter Kaylin are both coaches. My Mom, Brother and Sister-in-law are also coaches. Special Olympics is truly a "family affair". There are over 4,000 athletes that make up SORI. Because of your generosity and continued support, not 1 athlete has EVER been charge a fee to compete in any of the over 25 sporting events that take place year round. As a coach, I have always looked at an athletes ability and not their disability. Together we have the ABILITY to help raise not only funds for these amazing athletes but also raise awareness of this fantastic organization, Special Olympics Rhode Island. "Let me win but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt" Thank you all again for your support! Rick LaBreche
