What are you doing New Year’s Day? 🤷‍♂️ I did my first Penguin Plunge earlier this year 🐧 It came after a record setting #NoHeatNovember 🥶 which lasted until December 23rd ⌛️ None of the cold nights in my house could have prepared me 🏠 for the cold water on that January Day 🌊 and dabbling in cold showers offered little reassurance 🚿 In the days leading up to the Plunge 🗓️ a specific quote from a survivor of the Titanic kept creeping into my head 🚢 "Striking the water was like a thousand knives 🔪 being driven into one's body 😱 The temperature was 28 degrees 🌡️ four degrees below freezing” 📉 -Charles Lightoller, Second Officer aboard Titanic ⚓️ I understood going in the water wouldn’t be pleasant 😏 but I knew I’d be out of it quickly 👍 and the forecast for sunshine and 50°s was encouraging 😎 Seeing numerous children at the event excited about plunging also put me at ease 👫 The turnout was amazing and Team Weather In RI raised over $1,400 for Special Olympics Rhode Island 🙌 This year I’m hoping Team Weather In RI can raise $2024 to ring in 2024 🥳 Secretly I’m also hoping it’s 8° with 9” of snow at the beach ☃️ but don’t tell anyone I said that 😬 Regardless of the weather it’s a great event for a great cause ✅ See you there 👋 Brian Chevalier 👨‍💼 Social Mediarologist Weather In RI #401wx
