A Message From Elwood Johnson

This year I am dedicating my Super Plunge to SORI Athlete Chris Sherman, who has been bravely battling cancer since the Summer of 2025. Chris is an upbeat and positive influence on many and is a volunteer firefighter with the Richmond-Carolina Fire Department. Chris is a great example of the power of the Special Olympics RI program. This year our team of Super Plungers will dive into the icy cold ocean EVERY HOUR for 24 HOURS between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, March 21st-22nd, 2026, to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics RI. Exposure to the freezing ocean and wind chills, and absolute sleep deprivation are brutal, but we know firsthand that Special Olympics makes the lives of people with intellectual disabilities BETTER through year-round sports programs, camaraderie with peers, and promoting tolerance and acceptance in society. Please help me achieve my goal for our friend Chris and ALL of our friends with intellectual disabilities who reach new heights through this program. Thank you kindly.

Special Olympics Rhode Island hosts over 40 statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 20 official and demonstration sports.
