A Message From Jon and David Ricciarelli
Welcome and thank you for visiting our page in support of the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island! As a member of the Smithfield Police Department for the past 16 + years, I have been lucky enough to participate in so many great events in support of the LETR and SORI. Selfishly, I have to admit, the Super Plunge takes the cake as being one of the most rewarding experiences for me. Not only do I get to participate in this 24 hour event with my dad (who has just turned 70!!) by my side the entire time, but we participate knowing that all proceeds raised go to the over 4,000 adults and children with developmental disabilities who will be able to participate in over 40 statewide competitions and tournaments sponsored by Special Olympics Rhode Island. The memories I get with my dad each year while we Super Plunge is worth every bit of temporary pain we may endure as we face the cold and sleep deprivation Thank you again for your support and I look forward to seeing you all on the weekend of March 21st and 22nd!

In Support of Special Olympics RI
Special Olympics is a global movement that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sports, every day around the world. Through sports, health, education and community programming, Special Olympics is tackling inactivity, intolerance, isolation and injustice that people throughout the world face, especially people with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics Rhode Island is one of the state’s most dynamic programs, providing over 1,600 year-round sports training and athletic competition opportunities to more than 4,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Rhode Island hosts over 40 statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 20 official and demonstration sports.
