As I reflect to 2016, little did I know that my 1st plunge (and thought to be the last) would be the beginning of my incredible journey with Special Olympics RI. So why am I doing this again -- Because every day Special Olympians face a world of challenges that are very different from my own. They do so always with a smile and a determination to succeed that is unwavering. And in the process, they demonstrate what it is to have true strength, courage and kindness. Over the years my daughter has participated in the Special Olympics swimming, tennis, softball, basketball and bowling teams and always closing out the year with the ski and snowboard team at Yawgoo Valley. But more than just sports, Special Olympics has provided a community for her by building friendships that continue to demonstrate compassion and confidence, empowering all of us to live in a society of inclusion. So once again on January 1, 2026, at 12:00 Noon, the waddle begins for me - the 50th Anniversary of the Penguin Plunge! If you are at the event look for my family, friends and supporters who will be wearing the Team Italian Ice shirts in support of my plunge. I am hoping to meet the goal of $20,000 this year so that the total raised will be $50,000 for the 50th Anniversary All athletes take the following oath: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." So I ask you -- are you brave enough?
